This is an exact reprint of A GUIDE TO ZERMATT AND THE MATTERHORN. This book was published in Reading UK by the Gaston's - West Col in 1978. It replicates an early edition of this famous guide that was first published in 1897 and revised annually until 1911. This is probably a copy of the 1899 edition since Whymper offers some statistics about the 1898 season in the first part of the book. The book measures 8cm tall x 124mm. It includes a 4-page historical note by Louis Baume followed by xiv + pre-title + 212 pages, including 80 b/w illustrations-plans-maps (two folding maps and one folding engraving at rear), 44 numbered pages of advertisements (24 at front and 20 at rear). These advertisements are from the original edition dating around 1899 and describe books, outdoor & climbing equipment, gadgets, hotels. Several of the ads are illustrated.

CONDITION: Original light grey wrappers with blue lettering front and rear, blue illustration front. 3mm diameter tiny spot lower front cover; otherwise, in unused condition. Price: SOLD.
