This is the first hardcover edition of THE MAVERICK MOUNTAINEER -- THE REMARKABLE LIFE OF GEORGE INGLE FINCH: CLIMBER, SCIENTIST, INVENTOR by Robert Wainwright. This book was published in 2016 by Allen & Unwin in London. The book was first published in Australia in 2015 by HarperCollins, but that was only in paperback. This is the first printing in hardcover with dust jacket. The book measures 241mm tall x 157mm and has 409 pages + [1], 24 b/w photos. The author, a professional journalist & author of 10 books, had access to Finch's personal papers and diaries, surviving family, alpine club archives, and many newspaper records. This is the first full biography of Finch who was a major Everest pioneering mountaineer. He was the main advocate of trying the ascent using bottled oxygen, and his 1922 attempt at climbing Everest using supplemental oxygen set the height record.
