This is the first printing of the first edition of HOURS OF EXERCISE IN THE ALPS by John Tyndall. This book was published in London by Longmans & Green in 1871. The book measures 203mm tall x 125mm, and has 473 pages, 7 engravings (5 by Whymper), index. Three attempts on the Matterhorn, death of Benner, ascents of Jungfrau, Eiger, etc. A classic account.

CONDITION: Original green cloth with black borders covers, small gilt & black decoration front cover, similar decoration in black on rear cover, gilt lettering on spine, original tan coated endpapers. Pea-sized chip top corner spine, clean, inside hinges neatly repaired with tissue, no foxing, tight binding, VG+. Price: $300.
