This is the first edition & first printing of the USA edition of SNOW ON THE EQUATOR. It was published in New York by The MacMillan Company in 1938. The book measures 219mm tall x 145mm. It has 265 pages, 26 b/w photos on 20 plates, and 4 maps. Account of author's climbing with Shipton on Mt Kenya, Kilimanjaro, and the Ruwenzori. Tilman's bicycle trip across Africa is also described. This is by far the least common of Tilman’s mountaineering books. It was his second book, published shortly after his classic account of the first ascent of Nanda Devi.

CONDITION:Original red cloth, silver title block spine. Uncommon dust jacket (small chips spine ends and top rear edge, 1cm x 1cm chip upper front outside corner, two 1cm tears rear, original price of "$3.00" present on flap corner); book covers exceptionally bright and clean (spine is usually faded, but not with this example), minor foxing on EPs near gutter, otherwise pages very clean and bright (not age toned), solid binding, a little browning to top fore-edge, no writing or stamps or marks on any pages, previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown.
