This is the first printing of the first edition of CHINA TO CHITRAL by H. W. Tilman. This book was published in Cambridge by the Cambridge University Press in 1951. The book measures 237mm x 157mm, 123 pages, 69 b/w photos, 4 maps, index. Account of Tilman’s journey through Chinese Turkistan in 1945 & attempts on Bogdo Ola & Chakar Aghil with Shipton. This contains perhaps Tilman’s most drolly sardonic writing & commentary on mountain adventure. Near the end of this travelogue he writes, “The less successful a mission, the more reason there is to wrap its lame conclusions in a cloud of verbiage.”

CONDITION: Original red cloth with gilt lettering spine. The dust jacket is nice condition with tiny chips at three corners, some rubbing at front spine fold. The book is in very good condition, has some faint foxing on the covers, foxing on the EP, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, no foxing on the interior pages. Price: $125.
