This is the first printing of the first edition in English of CHO OYU BY FAVOUR OF THE GODS by Herbert Tichy. This book was published in London by Methuen & Co Ltd in 1957. The book measures 222mm tall x 140mm, and has 196 pages, 4 colour & 33 b/w photos, 2 maps, appendix. The account of the first ascent Cho Oyu (26700') by a small-scale expedition on a shoestring budget that overcame failed first attempt & storm. This was one of the first expeditions to a big peak where Sherpas were true team members taking leading parts in the decision making regarding the climb. Sherpa Pasang Dawa Lama's amazing stamina was crucial to the success of the expedition.

CONDITION: Original tan cloth, red title block spine. The book is in nice condition with clean covers, solid binding, no foxing, no former owner marks or writing on any pages, tiny very faint stain to fore-edge of text block (see photo). The original dust jacket has small loss at base of spine, some loss along flap creases, slight darkening to spine. Price: $250.
