This is the fourth printing of the first French edition of Les Conquérants De L’Inutile: Des Alpes à l’Annapurna by Lionel Terray. This book was published in Paris by Gallimard in 1963. This is the FOURTH printing of the book that was first printed in 1961. It is the same as the first printing in every way except the colophon page has the later date of printing. This example has been SIGNED ON THE PRE-TITLE PAGE by Lionel Terray. Books signed by Lionel Terray are uncommon. The book measures 250mm tall x 142mm, and has 586 pages, 80 b/w photos, 10 maps. This is the original French language version of what was translated into English and published as Conquistadors Of The Useless, considered by many to be one of the greatest mountaineering books ever published.

CONDITION: Original semi-glossy pale yellow paperback (same format as the first printing which was issued only in paperback), blue and green lettering front & spine. The book has been signed on the pre-title page by Lionel Terray in blue ink (good strong signature). There is some fore-edge foxing, very minor foxing on some pages but nearly all pages are free of foxing, solid binding, no owner marks or writing on pages, clean covers, some rubbing at spine ends. Price: $125.
