This is the first printing of the first edition of HOMMES ET CIMES DU PEROU by Lionel Terray. This book was published in France in the 1950s, probably 1958 (based on an award noted in one of the ads), though the climbs described in this book occurred in 1956. It is not dated and does not indicate any publisher or place of publication. It is likely that this was published by Terray with the support of his sponsors to distribute to sponsors for advertising purposes. It contains several advertisements featuring Terray in action in the mountains with sponsors' products. The main body of the content consists of three essays by Terray on mountaineering in Peru, and his first ascents in 1956 of Chacraraju & Taulliraju. This item was issued only in magazine style format with paper covers and stable binding. The book measures 264mm tall x 205mm and consists of 6 folded sheets staple-bound (so 22 pages not counting outside covers), with 15 b/w photos, 1 map, several advertisements, photo on front & back cover. The text is in french. This was never published in an english language version. This example has been hand-signed in pen by Lionel Terray on the font cover.

CONDITION: Original photo-illustrated wrappers bound by two staples. One tiny 1mm nick lower front edge of front cover, minor rubbing along spine crease, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean. Price: $145.
