This is the first printing of the first UK edition of EVEREST THE CRUEL WAY by Joe Tasker. This book was published in London by Eyre Methuen in 1981. The book measures 222mm tall x 134mm, and has 166 pages, 26 b/w photos. Tasker’s account of an unsuccessful attempt in winter on the West Ridge of Mt Everest led by Al Rouse, without supplemental oxygen. Tasker’s first book. By far this is the least common of Tasker’s two books. Scarce.

CONDITION: Original navy cloth with gilt lettering spine. Nice dust jacket (no chips, no tears, clean). The book is in near fine condition but has two tiny, shallow bumps on front cover, previous owner crimp mark on blank FFEP and on title page (see photo), brief gift inscription on page opposite title page, no other marks or writing on any pages, minor tanning to pages, tight binding, no foxing, clean.
