This is the first printing of the first edition of THE ASCENT OF DENALI (MOUNT MCKINLEY). A NARRATIVE OF THE FIRST COMPLETE ASCENT OF THE HIGHEST PEAK IN NORTH AMERICA by Hudson Stuck. This book was published in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1914. The book measures 214mm tall x 140mm and has 188 pages, 34 b/w plates, folding map. Classic of American climbing literature. This expedition made the accepted first ascent of the South Peak, the highest, through very broken snow & ice conditions that were created by a big earthquake. Harry Karstens picked & led most of the route.

CONDITION: Original green cloth, gilt lettering cover & spine, grey & white decoration on the front cover of a climber on the mountain. Cleaner and brighter than usual, only some very faint soiling covers (hard to see), no previous owner marks or writing, no foxing, light bump to upper front outside cover corner, small tea stain (less then 1cm in the longest dimension -- see photo below) to the margin edge of 6 leaves, solid binding, hinges fine, folding map is fine. Overall a better than average condition example of this book. Price: $325.
