This is the first USA edition & first printing of ERIC SHIPTON. EVEREST AND BEYOND. It was published in Seattle by The Mountaineers in 1998. The book measures 24cm tall x 155mm and has 290 pages, 32 b/w photos, 21 maps, several sketches, glossary, biblio, index. This is the definitive & best biography of the great mountain explorer & Everest pioneer, Eric Shipton. Story sticks mostly to the exploration & climbing (plus details on the Everest 1953 leadership), covers some determining details of his personal life, but elegantly avoids the deep muckraking that is sometimes popular in biographies, especially when the subject’s personal correspondence has been made available. Has splendid appendix that discusses sources, notes conversations, and overflows with amusing anecdotes. This book was the winner of the 1998 Boardman-Tasker Award.

CONDITION: Original navy boards with silver lettering spine. Signed by Peter Steele in pen on the title page. Original dust jacket is in fine condition. The book is fine condition with no previous owner's marks or writing on any pages (I bought this book new from the publisher in 1998). Price: $45.
