This is the first printing of the first edition of KING OF THE SPIRAL ROAD -- A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF HANS SCHWARZ by R. W. Sandford. This item was published in 2001 by The Alpine Club of Canada in Canmore. It measures 276mm tall x 212mm, and has 16 pages, and 9 b/w photos. It is the second issue in a series of staple-bound magazine style (but on thicker paper) special histories relating to Canadian mountaineering. This issue is about the Swiss born mountaineering guide, Hans Schwarz. He is best known for the many climbs and attempts that he guided up Mt Robson in the Canadian Rockies. This also includes a section on his Wickersham Wall expedition to Denali and a section on his expedition to Huascaran in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru.
CONDITION: Original thick paper covers (about the same as the covers for the recent club journals). Fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. Price: $4.
