CLIMBS AND SKI RUNS

MOUNTAINEERING AND SKI-ING IN THE ALPS

GREAT BRITAIN AND CORSICA

BY FRANK SMYTHE

1957 EDITION

FRANK SMYTHE'S FIRST BOOK

ONE OF HIS BEST TO READ

This is the 1957 printing of CLIMBS AND SKI RUNS -- MOUNTAINEERING AND SKI-ING IN THE ALPS, GREAT BRITAIN, AND CORSICA by Frank Smythe. This book was published in London by Adam & Charles Black in 1957. The book measures 220mm tall x 145mm, and has 197 pages, 9 b/w photos. Nice, more compact reprint of Smythe's first book. The first printing was in 1929 in a thick binding. This has the same page size but is about half as thick. This is considered by some to be Smythe's best book. I read it long ago and remember enjoying it, but I still think that CAMP SIX is his best book. Covers some UK climbs, Dolomites, ski mountaineering in the Bernese Oberland and winter ascent of the Eiger, Corsica. About 1/3 of the book is on climbing in the Mont Blanc Range, including his first ascents on the Brenva Face with Graham Brown in 1927 & 1928. This contains Smythe's primary account of those Mont Blanc ascents. They appear in some of his other books, but not with as many details.

CONDITION: Original green cloth, silver lettering spine. The book is in clean condition, solid binding, private owner crimped address on top edge of first blank page otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing. The dust jacket has some small loss to tips of spine corners, price-clipped flap corner. Price: $45.
