This an original issue of the SIERRA CLUB BULLETIN DECEMBER 1963 VOLUME 48 NUMBER 9 published by the Sierra Club in San Francisco in 1963. This issue has 22 pages of text by Dick Emerson on the first ascent of the West Ridge of Mt Everest by Tom Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld and their first traverse of Everest. The article also includes 12 pages of b/w photos relating to the climbing including a large fold-out (see photo below). This is one of the main accounts of the famous climb, offering a perspective from one of the few members who committed entirely to the route. This issue also has a selection of 15 fine b/w photographs by Philip Hyde of famous Colorado canyons with accompanying text by David Brower.

CONDITION: Original white wrappers with b/w photo illustrated front cover. SIGNED by Dr. Hornbein on the title page of the article. Overall condition is very good with no tears, minor soiling rear cover, tight binding, no foxing, small owner name/address stamp on upper corner of first page (not ex-library) otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, complete with all photo plates. Price: $45.
