This is the fourth printing of the first UK edition of Upon That Mountain by Eric Shipton. This book was published in London by Hodder & Stoughton in 1947. This is the FOURTH printing of the book that was first printed in 1943. It is the same as the first printing in every way except the copyright page is augmented to indicate printing and the dust jacket is different on the rear panel and flaps. This example has been SIGNED ON THE TITLE PAGE by Eric Shipton. Signed copies of this Shipton title are quite uncommon. The book measures 207mm tall x 130mm, and has 222 pages, 31 b/w photos, 4 maps. Early climbing autobiography includes climbing in the Alps, 2nd through 5th ascents of Mt Kenya described in two good chapters covering 1st ascent of S Ridge Nelion—considered now the normal route to both summits—with Wyn Harris and 1st traverse via long new route with Tilman via W Ridge & down normal route, Mtns of the Moon, Everest, Nanda Devi, Karakoram.

CONDITION: Original black cloth with pale blue lettering front and spine. The book has been signed by Eric Shipton on the title page. There are no other owner marks or writing on any pages. The covers have some faint marks, very minor bump upper front corner, some foxing on the first and last several pages (not bad) but no foxing on other pages, fore-edge foxing, tight binding. The dust jacket is better than usual for this book (DJ was printed on very thin paper): slight darkening to spine, rubbing at corner tips, light soiling. Price: $350.
