This is the first printing of the first edition of MODERN SURFING AROUND THE WORLD by John Severson. This book was published in Garden City by Doubleday & Company in 1964. The book measures 285mm tall x 214mm and has 188 pages + [1], and about 100 b/w photos, glossary of surfing terms. A combination of instruction and gazetteer of surfing destinations. Most of the content is about places to surf throughout the world in 1964, some of the leading surfers of the period, some history of surfing.

CONDITION: Original blue cloth with blue decoration front cover, blue lettering spine, photo decorated end-pages. The book is in clean, sharp condition but has some tiny black spotting along the very lower edges of the cover (likely some transfer from an old dust jacket protector, previous owner name penned to the top of the free end-page, no other owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, no foxing. The original dust jacket has a 5cm tear lower front with crinkle lines, a 1cm tear upper front, a 5cm tear upper rear near spine, price-clipped front flap corner. Price: $50.
