This is the first printing of the first edition of IN THE THRONE ROOM OF THE MOUNTAIN GODS by Galen Rowell. This book was published in San Francisco in 1977 by The Sierra Club. The book measures 282mm tall x 207mm, and has 326 pages, 320 photos (66 in color), bibliography, index. This is the main account of the 1975 American K2 expedition that attempted the then unclimbed NW Ridge. The account includes a good history of exploration and attempts to climb the mountain. Team politics and friction between members were included in this account, one of the first books on a major mountaineering expedition to feature such content. As usual, Rowell's photos from the expedition are excellent.

CONDITION: Original blue cloth, silver lettering spine. Original dust jacket has price-clipped flap corner, some rubbing on the rear panel, 1cm tear upper front corner. The book is clean with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean pages, tight binding, no foxing, no fading. Price: $30.
