This is the first printing of the first USA edition of KARAKORAM THE ASCENT OF GASHERBRUM IV by Riccardo Cassin. This book was published in New York by The Viking Press in 1961. The book measures 237mm tall x 169mm, and has 320 pages, 108 photos (57 in color), 6 appendices, 20 sketches, 4 maps + EP map, bibliography, index. Walter Bonatti and Carlo Mauri made the first ascent of this 7923m peak in June of 1958. Riccardo Cassin was the leader of this expedition and climbed high on the peak including partway up Gasherbrum III. A very well illustrated and written book. G-IV offers no easy way up, has been climbed to the top only a few times, & still poses some of the greatest unmet challenges of the Karakoram.

CONDITION: Original beige cloth, blue title patch spine with gilt lettering. The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, clean, no rubbing, solid binding. The dust jacket has a 1cm tear upper rear and a 1cm tear lower front. The jacket is in better than average condition for this book. Usually they are quite tattered. Price: $85.
