This is the first edition of EIN BERGSTEIGER -- EINER DER BEZWINGER DER EIGER-NORDWAND by Fritz Kasparek. This book was published in 1939 by Das Bergland-Buch in Salzburg. The book measures 224mm tall x 151mm, and has 226 pages, 71 b/w photos. Text in german, no english edition. Climbing autobiography of one of the members of the team that made the first ascent of the notorious Eigerwand in 1938 along with Anderl Heckmair, Heinrich Harrer, and Ludwig Vörg. Kasparek was a superb rock climber, later excelling on ice. This is his account of hard climbs, mostly in the Dolomites, leading up to and including the first ascent of the Eigerwand (10 pages text, 4 photos). Pretty good climbing photos, especially those of his ascent of the North Face of the Zinne.

CONDITION: Original light greyish beige cloth, black lettering front & spine. The book is in nice condition with a touch of fading to the spine lettering, clean, previous owner name erased from top edge of first blank page, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, tight binding. The uncommon original dust jacket (usually, if present, is found quite worn with significant loss) has tiny loss up to 4mm deep across top of spine, rubbed tips of corners. Price: $85.
