This is the first japanese edition of NANDA DEVI TRAVERSE 1976 by members of the expedition. This book was published in Tokyo by Meikei-do in 1977. The book measures 246mm tall x 228mm, and has a total of 196 pages (23 pages of text in japanese, 4-page english summary), 137 color photos, 7 b/w photos, EP map. TEXT IN JAPANESE WITH CAPTIONS IN ENGLISH. This is the only edition of the book. It was never translated into english. Photo album and account of the first successful traverse of the two peaks of Nanda Devi by a joint Japanese-Indian expedition. This was the route where Duplat & Vignes perished during the 1951 french attempt, described in Languepin’s book TO KISS HIGH HEAVEN. Excellent photo presentation of the trek up the Rishi Gorge, the climb, the surrounding peaks. Nearly all the photos are all full-page size. INCLUDES A 4-PAGE SUMMARY IN ENGLISH.

CONDITION: Original rough-weave dark grey cloth, white lettering front and spine. No example of this book was issued with a DJ. Includes original plain cardboard slipcase that has printed title sticker covering most of one side and spine (slipcase a little rubbed and worn). The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean, tight binding, no foxing. Price: SOLD.
