This is the 1973 Tandem paperback edition of THE ASCENT OF EVEREST by John Hunt and Edmund Hillary. The book has been signed & dated by Tenzing Norgay and by Edmund Hillary on the title page. Tenzing dated his signature 17/1/75 and Hillary dated his signature 7/16/81. Any copy of THE ASCENT OF EVEREST signed by both Tenzing and Hillary is scarce. Tenzing signed very few copies of THE ASCENT OF EVEREST, mainly because he was not part of most of the Everest 1953 reunions and he lived in Darjeeling. I have encountered less than 5 copies of ASCENT OF EVEREST signed by both Tenzing and Hillary. This book, a larger format paperback (slightly bigger that the usual paperback book size), was published in London in 1973 by Universal-Tandem Publishing Co. The book measures 197mm tall x 128mm, and has 299 pages + [1], 9 b/w photos, 4 maps, several b/w sketches, glossary, index. This edition has all of the text and in-text illustrations of the first edition - - but fewer photos. This is the main book on the first ascent of Mt Everest.

CONDITION: Original paperback binding. The book has edge wear and a couple of small scuffs to spine edge, bookstore stamp on corner of first page indicating that it was purchased in Kalimpong, no other owner marks or writing on any pages (other than the Tenzing & Hillary dated signatures), no foxing, slight age-tanning of pages, solid binding (no loose pages).
