This is the 1955 reprint of the original english edition of WE DIE ALONE by David Howarth. This book was published in 1955 in New York by Macmillan Company for the Book-of-the-Month-Club. It is nearly identical to the first printing of the same year except it does not have "First Edition" printed on the copyright page. Everything else is the same as the first printing. The book measures 215mm tall x 141mm, and has 231 pages, 23 b/w photos, EP map. Exciting, true account of the perilous escape of a lone surviving Norwegian resistance fighter, Jan Baalsrud, from the Nazis in occupied Norway during WWII. The escape and chase led him across arctic mountains in winter, a two-month ordeal of clever evasion wracked with suffering. The escape was on foot, skis, & finally on sledge after he self-amputated his 9 frostbitten toes. One of the better true adventure stories.
