CONDITION: Original grey cloth, gilt decorated cover, gilt lettering cover & spine. This book is signed by the author, Thomas Hornbein on the title page. Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld were the two that climbed the new route and made the first traverse. It is also signed on the title page by Jim Whittaker, who climbed to the summit several days earlier than Hornbein via the Khumbu S. Col route supported by the main contingent of this two-pronged expedition. Whittaker was the first American to reach the summit of Mount Everest. BOOK CONDITION is near fine with no fading, some minor faint marks on front cover (see photo), tight binding, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean pages, no crease marks, no rubbing. The original DUST JACKET is in much better than average condition for this book. It has no chips, a clean 4cm tear lower rear (barely visible), complete with original price on flap corner.
