This is the first printing of the DELUXE PROSPECTUS AND SUITE OF PHOTOS EVEREST THE WEST RIDGE by Tom Hornbein. This was published in San Francisco by The Sierra Club in 1965. It was issued most likely to promote the book, but exact details are uncertain. Of the few examples of it that we have encountered, most of the photos in each are the same, though there have been instances where one or two photos are different between examples. Each was issued with 10 photos. They were issued as a printed rag paper folder with a large format 4-page printed insert (one very large sheet folded in half to make 4 pages) and 10 color glossy photo plates taken directly from the plates used in the first printing of the book. The plates have text printed on the versos, the same text that is in the book for that page, i.e., the pages are leaves from the book that were never bound into the book. The printed insert has content as follows: first page) custom title page for the prospectus; second page) bibliographic details mainly about the photos; third page) the last five paragraphs from Hornbein's text in the book; fourth page) Sierra Club manifesto. The rag folder measures 354mm tall x 275mm. The printed insert measures 342mm tall x 260mm. Each photo plate measures 337mm tall x 261mm.

CONDITION: Original folder, insert, and photo plates. Complete with 10 plates and printed insert. The front of the folder has part of a ring mark upper front, a bit of soiling lower front outside corner, 5mm split to lower spine fold, a bit of rubbing along the spine crease, minor soiling rear cover. The insert and the color plates are in nice condition. No previous owner marks or writing on any page or plate. The front cover of the folder has been hand-signed (not printed) by Tom Hornbein.
