This is the first printing of the english translation of the original 1958 german language edition. The first USA printing was in 1960. The book being offered here is the first UK edition published in 1959.

CONDITION: Original blue covers with silver lettering spine. Hand-signed by Heinrich Harrer (the author) and by Anderl Heckmair (leader of the first ascent) on the fold-out photo of the Eigerwand. Heckmair said that he preferred to sign on the photo since he took no part in the writing of this book. Original dust jacket is in better condition than average for this DJ which is very prone to wear and flecking. The jacket has no tears, no chips, very minor rubbing at edges, is 100% complete. Book is in nice, clean condition with a little browning at extreme edges of covers. Binding is tight and square. No previous owner's marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, clean bright pages, no crease marks on any pages. This is a very collectible condition example of the first UK printing, signed by the leader and the author. It is impossible to find examples signed by the other two members of the climb, Fritz Kasparek & Ludwig Vörg, because both were killed prior to publication of this book. Vörg was killed in action during WWII. Kasparek was killed in a breaking-cornice fall while climbing in the Andes. Price: SOLD.
