This is the first printing of the first edition of THE FROSTY CAUCASUS' AN ACCOUNT OF A WALK THROUGH PART OF THE RANGE AND OF AN ASCENT OF ELBRUZ IN THE SUMMER OF 1874 by F. C. Grove. This book was published in London by Longmans, Green & Co. in 1875. The book measures 196mm tall x 140mm, and has 341 pages + 2 pages ads, 7 engravings by Whymper, colour folding map. Account of the first ascent in 1874 of Elbrus (5633m, highest point in Europe, one of the Seven Summits) by Grove, F. Gardiner, P. Knubel, H. Walker spearheaded by A.W. Moore who, ironically, chose to wait in camp for friends on the day that the others gained the summit. Six years earlier Freshfield & Moore had made the 1st ascent of the East Peak (5621m).

CONDITION: Original bluish green cloth, gilt rules cover & spine, gilt lettering spine. Generally clean covers, fraying upper 2cm of top rear spine crease, rubbed tips corners, owner name in pencil on FFEP, no other marks or writing on any pages, complete with all plates and map, no foxing.
