THE MAKING OF A MOUNTAINEER

BY GEORGE INGLE FINCH

1988 EXPANDED EDITION

MUCH MT EVEREST CONTENT

WITH NEW 116 PAGE BIOGRAPHY OF FINCH BY SCOTT RUSSELL

18 ADDITIONAL PHOTOS NOT FOUND IN THE FIRST EDITION OR OTHER REPRINTS

This is the 1988 much expanded edition of THE MAKING OF A MOUNTAINEER by George Ingle Finch. This book was published in Bristol by J. W. Arrowsmith in 1988. Surprisingly uncommon, this is the only edition that has the 116 page biography of Finch by Scott Russell. It also has 18 photos that were not included in the first edition or reprints, and a new foreword by John Hunt, leader of the first expedition to reach the summit of Everest (assuming Mallory and Irvine did not reach the top). Otherwise, this edition is a high quality facsimile of the 1924 edition with good reproduction of all of the photos on semi-glossy paper (not the cheap blurry reproductions found in typical facsimile books). The book measures 228mm tall x 145mm, and has 116 pages + 340 pages, 18 + 78 b/w photos, index. This contains an important first-person account of climbing on the Mount Everest expedition of 1922. Finch along with Geoffrey Bruce were the first known mountaineers to climb above 8000m.

CONDITION: Original red boards, gilt lettering spine, small gilt decoration of climber front cover. Both the DJ and book are in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, clean, never used. This book is in unread condition having been purchased directly from the publisher and kept in climate controlled storage for years. Price: $75.
