This is the first printing of the first UK edition of RUWENZORI: AN ACCOUNT OF THE EXPEDITION OF H.R.H. PRINCE LUIGI AMADEO OF SAVOY, DUKE OF THE ABRUZZI by Filippo de Filippi. This book was published in London by Archibald Constable and Co in 1908. The book measures 265mm tall x 180mm, and has 408 pages, 154 b/w text photos, 31 b/w plates (3 folding panoramas), colored frontispiece, 5 folding maps, index, Vittorio Sella photos. This is the classic work on this tropical range. This expedition made first ascents of all the major peaks.

CONDITION: Original red buckram cloth with gilt lettering front cover and spine, TEG. Spine faded, some light spotting and soiling covers, binding a bit loose -- cracked between a few page gatherings but with the sewing holding well. Complete with all plates, panoramas, maps. Interesting inscription on blank front EP (see photo); otherwise, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. No foxing, clean pages. NOT ex-library. Price: SOLD.
