BY H.R.H. PRINCE LUIGI AMADEO DI SAVOIA, DUKE OF THE ABRUZZI
BY FILIPPO DE FILIPPI
1900 FIRST UK EDITION
EXCELLENT PHOTOS BY VITTORIO SELLA
CONDITION: Rebound in dark navy (almost black) buckram, gilt lettering spine, gilt rules at spine ends, TEG. Fine condition but foxing on title page and opposite several plates mainly towards the front of the book. One folding panorama has foxing in vicinity of one fold otherwise the pans are clean and free of foxing. A couple pans have extra vertical creases where misfolded. The maps are clean and unworn. The binding is tight. No stamps, no owner marks, no writing, and no dampstaining on any pages. Rebinds of this book are more common than not because copies did not wear well and all original bindings of it fall apart since they were never sewn but glued. Even if you found a completely unused and unopened copy that had been stored in a box, the binding would fall apart if you tried to open the pages and read the book because the glue fails over time. Copies with original cloth boards with spine relaid are what turn up the most frequently. This copy has been completely rebound in unsophisticated new plain navy blue covers and spine (original covers discarded) that don’t resemble the original which was green with inset title block on front cover. Price: $500.
