CLASSIC MONT BLANC BOOK
RARE EDITION OF 90 COPIES
This is the 1988 high quality reproduction of the 1827 first edition of A NARRATIVE OF AN ASCENT TO THE SUMMIT OF MONT BLANC by Charles Fellows. This book was published in Matlock by Jarvis Books in 1988, one of 90 numbered copies, the first reprint of one of the most collectible of the Mont Blanc books. There were approximately only 150 copies made of the first edition. Only 90 copies of this reprint were made, each being numbered. The limitation page indicates that 100 copies were made, but the publisher said that only 90 were produced. Of this reprint, 60 copies were made with hand-coloured plates & hand-coloured title vignette, and 30 copies were made with 2 or 1 hand-coloured plates with the remaining plates being in black & white. This is one of the copies with 2 coloured plates. This is the account of the 14th ascent of Mont Blanc made by Fellows, William Hawes and nine guides, the first ascent of the Corridor Route. This reprint is very similar to the original edition in size & look. It is bound with navy cloth spine, small white title patch, tan paper-covered boards with ruled title on front in black lettering. The plates & text pages are printed on quality, acid-free paper. The book measures 306mm tall x 240mm, and has vii + 35 pages, 12 plates (2 are hand-coloured), b/w title-page vignette, 1 facsimile summit certificate, 1 height table.
CONDITION: Original navy cloth spine, small white title patch, tan paper-covered boards with ruled title on front in black lettering. Original plain onion-skin wrapper. The wrapper has minor wear at the corners and spine ends. The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, tight binding, clean. Price: $250.
