ORGINAL EVEREST GAME

VEXING -- LIKE POST-HOLING THROUGH CRUSTY SNOW


This is an original Mount Everest game, EVEREST. A GAME OF SKILL FOR THE FAMILY manufactured by Aldon Industries probably shortly after the first ascent of the mountain in 1953. There is no date on the game, but the clothing and equipment shown in the graphics on the game suggest 1950s. The object of the game is to roll a steel bearing ball up a spiral groove to the top of the mountain. The mountain with the groove and the ball are enclosed in a transparent bubble. The groove has some dips and banks that are difficult to negotiate without having the ball fall off. The photos below give more details. This game can be fixating. If playing it while belaying a climbing partner on a slow and difficult pitch, you may want to unclip from the rope so you won't be distracted should your partner fall.

CONDITION: Original cardboard mount with plastic mountain under a transparent plastic bubble. The printed cardboard mount measures 215mm tall x 167mm. The bubble dome has a height of about 55mm. The mountain track has a rupture/crack at the lowest point that can stick the bearing ball, but it does not affect playing the game since the challenge starts where the ball begins the climb up the groove (above the rupture). The bubble has three shallow dents that do not impede any of the functionality of the game. The cardboard mount has some cellophane tape in places along the edges, general wear, but all of the original printed lettering and images are clear and easy to see/read. Price: $85.
