CLOSE UPS OF THE HIGH SIERRA
1966 SECOND IMPRESSION
By Norman Clyde
This is the 1966 Second Printing of CLOSE UPS OF THE HIGH SIERRA. It was published in Glendale in 1966 by La Siesta Press. It measures 221mm tall x 145mm, and has 79 pages, 11 b/w photos, 5 maps, index, list of Clyde’s first ascents in the Sierra Nevada. This is the same format as the first printing made from the same plates. It is hardbound in bluish grey cloth. This is the only copy of the second printing that we have encountered that has been hardbound. The binding is sewn and appears to be that by the publisher with the spine label from the cover of the softcover version mounted on the spine. Only 200 copies of the first printing were hardbound. All of the rest and later printings were bound in paperback except for this example. It is possible that this was not bound by the publisher, but it is in the same style as the other hardcover examples. Describes several of Clyde's pioneering first ascents (e.g., East Face of Whitney in sneakers) & describes the peaks above 12000'. Clyde made 127 first ascents of mountains and many new routes in the High Sierra between 1914 & 1940.
CONDITION: Hardcover in bluish grey cloth with title label mounted on spine. Fine condition, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. Price: $75.
