This is the first printing of the first USA edition of SKI-ING TURNS by Vivian Caulfeild. This book was published in New York by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1923. The book measures 198mm tall x 129mm, and has 279 pages, 32 b/w figures in the text, 8 illustrated loose cards in the rear pocket of the book. The first book in english devoted entirely to the description and analysis of skiing turns. Arnold Lunn wrote of this book, "The illustrations are excellent, the best and most helpful that we have yet seen... It (the book) is so good that any Ski-runner who does not at once get hold of a copy stamps himself as completely indifferent to his own improvement. "This was also the first (and only?) book in english to include loose instructional cards in a pocket: "A special feature is the inclusion of a set of cards, giving diagrams and the essentials of each Turn, one or more of which can be removed from the book and carried in the pocket for ready reference whilst actually on the snow." Consequently, many copies of this book are lacking some or all of the cards. The book offered here has the complete set of cards.

CONDITION: Original tannish grey cloth with black decoration front cover & spine, black lettering front cover & spine. The book is in good condition with some very faint discoloration front cover (see photos), minor bump top edge of front cover, browning to end-pages, some foxing to first few and last few pages but not much otherwise, previous owner name pencilled to upper edge of first blank page otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, complete with all pages and cards, small spot upper edge of card pocket (see photo). The first printing of this classic book is very uncommon. Price: $225.
