This is the first printing of the first edition of LIFE IN THE ANTARCTIC. SIXTY PHOTOGRAPHS BY MEMBERS OF THE SCOTTISH NATINAL ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION by William Bruce. This book was published in London by Gowans & Gray in 1907. The book measures 147mm tall x 97mm, and has [8] + 67 + [5] pages, 60 b/w photos. Nice collection of photos from the Scotia expedition of 1902-04. The brief foreward to the book indicates that large format photos of those illustrated in this book could be obtained from the expedition archives. There are 8 pages of ads at the front and 5 pages of ads at the rear. This little book was issued in illustrated parchment covers that always brown with age and have the browning offset to the first and last page.

CONDITION: Original parchment covers. Usual browning to covers and browning offset to the first and last page, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, 3cm split along lower spine of cover, some wrinkling rear cover, cover trimmed (by publisher) too short so that some of the text block is exposed at the front. Price: $275.
