THE CLIMB

TRAGIC AMBITIONS ON EVEREST

1997 SECOND PRINTING

SIGNED AND DATED BY ANATOLI BOOKREEV AND BY WESTON DEWALT ON THE TITLE PAGE

VERY SCARCE BOOK WHEN SIGNED

This is the second printing of the first edition of THE CLIMB -- TRAGIC AMBITIONS ON EVEREST by Anatoli Boukreev. This book was published in 1997 by St. Martin's Press in New York, the same month as the first printing. Other than a "1" lacking on the number line on the copyright page it is identical to the first printing. It has been signed by Boukreev and by DeWalt on the title page. Very few copies were signed. Signed second printings are much less common than signed first printings. The book measures 242mm tall x 157mm, and has 256 pages, 1 b/w & 24 color photos, 2 maps, 1 graph. Good book, recommended reading for anyone planning to climb high. Account of the May 1996 Everest SE Ridge climb where leading guides Scott Fischer & Rob Hall, & 3 others, perished in a storm. Boukreev was Fischer’s chief guide on the trip & subsequently had plenty of criticism directed at the decisions he made high on the mountain. It’s a clear account with clear opinions based on great experience.

CONDITION: Original white boards, silver lettering spine. The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages (other than Boukreev's & DeWalt's signatures on the title page), no foxing, tight binding, clean. The book is signed and dated 11-14-97 by Boukreev and signed by DeWalt on the title page in black pen. The original dust jacket is in fine condition with no chips, no tears, clean. Price: $325.
