BY ROBERT H. BATES AND TEAM MEMBERS
1939 FIRST USA EDITION WITH VERY UNCOMMON ORIGINAL DUST JACKET
CONDITION: Original red cloth with publisher's debossed emblem on front cover, gilt lettering spine. The book covers are clean and not rubbed. The spine is not faded which is very uncommon for this book. There is some slight discoloration (loss of color) on the outside edge of the rear cover. The spine ends are not frayed, but there is a clean 4mm split to the cloth of the lower spine. The binding is tight and not cracked. There is no foxing. There are no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. There is some browning to the original EPs and a little bit pulled off the rear EP from where the dust jacket flap had once been taped. There is a trace of color bleeding to the lower outside corners of the pastedowns (pink color). The original dust jacket is present but it has been slightly trimmed (about 3mm) along the top and bottom edges. At some point (probably early in its life) the jacket was mounted on sturdier paper (it still is) which undoubtedly accounts for its well preserved condition. It has no chips or tears and is very clean. The flap corners have been clipped. There is some scuffing on the very bottom edge of the rear panel resulting in some loss of the image of the glacier (see photo). Price: $750.
