This is the first printing of the first USA edition of HIGH MOUNTAINS AND COLD SEAS A BIOGRAPHY OF H. W. TILMAN by J.R.L. Anderson. This book was published in Seattle by The Mountaineers in 1980. The book measures 235mm tall x 152mm, and has 366 pages, 40 b/w photos, 15 maps, index. Written by Tilman’s friend. Tilman vanished on his last Antarctic trip in 1978. Much is drawn and quoted from Tilman’s many letters to family and friends. Tilman was a pioneer mountaineer, explorer, and sailor: Mt. Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, Mt Everest, Nanda Devi, Karakoram, Rakaposhi, Muztagh Ata, Chitral and Bogdo Ola, Annapurna IV, Patagonia, Greenland, Heard Island, Kerguelen, South Georgia, Spitzbergen, Iceland.

CONDITION: Original green boards with gilt lettering spine. The book is clean, previous owner name and date on first blank page, no other previous owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, no foxing. The dust jacket has the usual fading to the spine, tiny 5mm tear ar rear flap fold, no other problems. Price: $30.
