This is the first printing of the first UK edition of EVEREST THE CRUEL WAY by Joe Tasker. This book was published in London by Eyre Methuen in 1981. WITH the book is an expedition cover envelope. The envelope is signed by Aid and Al Burgess who were both climbing members of this expedition. The envelope has a pre-printed postally valid Nepal stamp that is cancelled 24 February 1981 in Kathmandu and has the expedition rubber stamp in red. The book measures 222mm tall x 134mm, and has 166 pages, 26 b/w photos. Taskerís account of an unsuccessful attempt in winter on the West Ridge of Mt Everest led by Al Rouse, without supplemental oxygen. Taskerís first book. By far this is the least common of Taskerís two books. Scarce.

CONDITION: Original navy cloth with gilt lettering spine. Flawless dust jacket with no chips, no tears, clean, no rubbing, no fading, complete. The book is in fine condition with the usual slight tanning to the pages, very minor bump to tips of outside top cover corners, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, clean, no rubbing, tight binding. The signed cover envelope is in very good condition -- no major flaws, just some minor wear from handling. Price: SOLD.
