This is the first printing of the first edition of MOUNTAINEERING HOLIDAY by Frank Smythe. This book was published in London by Hodder & Stoughton in 1940. The book measures 228mm tall x 146mm, 229 pages, 24 b/w photos, map. Solid climbs in the Alps: Les Bans, Les Ecrins, Mont Tondu, Tête Carré, Aiguille de Béranger, Aiguille de Bionnassay, and his first ascents on the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc with T.G. Brown. There was some falling out between the two climbers subsequent to the climbs and their accounts differ concerning the crux moves.

CONDITION: Original blue cloth with gilt lettering spine. Very good condition with clean covers, some fading at top and bottom of spine, clean, a few tiny foxing spots on pages opposite a few plates (but not heavy), solid binding, previous owner name penned to blank free front endpaper otherwise no previous owner marks or writing. The uncommon original dust jacket has 1cm deep loss at top of spine and 1cm loss lower spine corner, 1cm tear upper front. Price: $75.
