This is the true first printing of Joe Simpson's TOUCHING THE VOID. It was published in London by Johnathan Cape in 1988. It measures 24cm tall x 155mm and has 174 pages, 15 colour & 7 b/w photos, illustrated EPs. The first printing of this book is uncommon. It is distinguished from reprints by the ISBN number 0-224-025236 on the verso of the title page and no statement of printing number, just "First published 1988." The ISBN number on this first printing was mistakenly printed since it is for a different book (The Adventures of Pinocchio by C. Collodi published by Cape in 1988). The correct ISBN number, 0-224-02545-7, was printed on the dust jacket of the first printing (distinguished from jackets for reprints by absence of any revue comments on the flaps). All subsequent printings have the correct ISBN number.

CONDITION: Original black boards with gilt lettering spine. Covers are clean and bright, no rubbing, no fading, pages all clean and not browned, no creased or folded page corners, short gift inscription in blue pen on the front paste-down mostly in area that is under the dust jacket flap. Overall book is in fine condition. Original dust jacket is present in following condition: 3cm tear lower front at flap fold, 3mm deep chip lower spine corner, 2mm chip tip of top spine corner, clean, no fading, price-clipped lower.
