2003 FIRST EDITION
EXCELLENT HISTORICAL EXPLORATION PHOTOS
GOOD DETAILS AND HISTORY
This is the first printing of the first USA edition of EXPLORERS. A PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF EXPLORATION by Richard Sale. This book was published in New York by HarperCollins in 2003. The book measures 288mm tall x 1225mm, and has 192 pages, around 300 b/w & color photos, good index. This covers major exploration (mainly 19th and 20th century) of the sea, polar regions, mountains, deserts, jungles, and caves. It is illustrated extensively with superb historical photographs, some being very uncommon and rarely published. The text manages to include interesting details without becoming bogged down despite the large scope of the book. Interesting read and good starting point for further reading across many categories of exploration. The mountain section covers the 8000 meter peaks including Mt Everest, Broad Peak, Kangchenjunga, Annapurna and the Seven Summits Aconcagua, Mount McKinley, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Vinson, Carstenz, some alpine climbing history, a short section on early woman climbers, etc.
CONDITION: Original black boards, gilt lettering spine. The book is in new condition, no marks or writing on any pages, clean covers, solid binding, unused. The dust jacket has a tiny 4mm tear upper front edge otherwise it is flawless. Price: $10.
