This is the 4th printing of the first edition of EVEREST 1933. It was published in London by Hodder & Stoughton Limited. This is the same as the first printing, same size & contents (but see following note), slightly lighter blue binding. It was produced two months after the first printing. The copy being offered here was apparently warehoused by the publisher unbound until WWII since it has an errata slip from the publisher noting that this copy was bound without the large Everest map at the end because they were all destroyed by "enemy action." (see photo of errata slip). The book measures 26cm tall x 173mm, and has 390 pages, 59 b/w plates, 2 (of 3) folding maps, 11 chapters narrative, 9 chapters of scientific reports, index. Expedition reached 8570m and found the ice axe of Mallory or Irvine. One of the classic Everest books, uniform in size with the 1921, 1922, & 1924 Everest books.

CONDITION: Original blue cloth with gilt lettering spine. Issued without the folding Everest map at the end, but includes the other two folding maps. Covers clean, tight binding, fore-edge foxing but very little internal foxing except for the first and last few pages which have a few light spots, previous owner name dated June 1941 on blank FFEP, no other previous owner marks or writing, original frontis tissue present (see photo of title page), near Fine Price: SOLD.
