This is the first printing of the first edition of K2 THE 1939 TRAGEDY by Andrew J. Kauffman and William L. Putnam. This book was published in Seattle by The Mountaineers in 1992. The Mountaineers' print numbering sequence on the copyright page during this period was awkward, with the printing number being indicated by the greatest missing numeral from the sequence. The book measures 234mm tall x 150cm and has 224 pages, 35 b/w photos, map, route diagram, EP map, 8 appendices, facsimilies of letters, index. The first full account of this expedition that nearly saw Wiessner make the summit. It is clear that he would have reached the top had he chosen to continue alone. Analysis of the following controversy, partial resolution.

CONDITION: Original navy boards, gilt lettering spine. The dust jacket is in fine condition: no chips, no tears, clean, 100% complete. The book is in fine condition and is signed by William Putnam on the short title page; otherwise, there are no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. The binding is tight, no foxing, clean.
