FIRST ASCENT OF MANASLU

50TH ANNIVERSARY STAMP AND COVER

SIGNED BY SUMMITER MINORU HIGETA

This is the first day of issue official Nepalese cover commemorating the GOLDEN JUBILEE OF THE FIRST ASCENT OF MT. MANASLU with the decorated envelope, new stamp, and first day of issue Kathmandu cancel. Additionally, this cover is signed by Minoru Higeta, the only surviving summiter from the first ascent expedition at the time of this issue. Minoru Higeta and Kiichiro Kato comprised the second summit team. Both reached the summit two days after Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu first summited on 9 May 1956. Signatures of any of the summiters from the first ascent expedition are very uncommon. The cover also has three other signatures that have not been identified, but they are likely connected with either the expedition or the mountain's climbing history. The cover measures 104mm tall x 189mm (4.13 inches x 7.44 inches). It includes a folded insert briefly describing the first ascent and the cover. Details about the commemorative stamp are printed on the flap side of the commemorative envelope.

CONDITION: Original envelope, stamp, and insert (not copies). The cover, stamp, and insert are in fine condition. Higeta's signature is strong and not in danger of fading. Price: $125.
