NANDA DEVI, 3e EXPÉDITION FRANÇAISE A L'HIMALAYA

BY J. J. LANGUEPIN AND L. PAYAN

1952 FIRST FRENCH EDITION

PHOTO BOOK OF THE ATTEMPTED FIRST TRAVERSE OF THE NANDA DEVI PEAKS

This is the first french edition of NANDA DEVI, 3e EXPÉDITION FRANÇAISE A L'HIMALAYA by J. J. Languepin and L. Payan. This book was published in Paris by Arthaud in 1952. The book measures 252mm tall x 193mm and has 72 pages of photos & 23 pages of text, 77 b/w & 17 color photos (4 on DJ flaps), 6 maps. TEXT IN FRENCH. This is the only edition of the book. It was never translated into english. Photo album of the 1951 french expedition that lost Duplat (leader) & Vignes while attempting the first traverse of Nanda Devi's two summits. They likely reached the main summit (7816m) & fell through a cornice on the traverse. This was one of the first (or the first?) expeditions to the Himalaya with the objective of doing an interesting new route on a big peak that had already been climbed. This is a fine collection of photos.
