1967 AMERICAN JAPANESE JOINT EXPEDITION
BY MITSUHIKO OHNO AND TEAM MEMBERS
1969 FIRST EDITION
FIRST ASCENT NEAR MT BONA ALASKA
VERY UNCOMMON BOOK
This is likely the first edition of MOUNT KOBE 1967 AMERICAN JAPANESE JOINT EXPEDITION by Mitsuhiko Ohno and team members (led by Tatsuo Miyazaki). I did not see any characters for later editions/printings on the copyright page. This book was published in Japan in 1969. The book measures 249mm tall x 185mm, and has 339 pages, 2 color and 41 b/w photos on plates, and 32 small b/w portrait photos of team members, 2 maps (in text), 1 folding map at rear, and several sketches of equipment. Account of the joint Japanese-American (Seattle Mountaineers) expedition that made the first ascents of several peaks to the west and northwest of Mt Bona, mainly those on the high ridge extending nearly due west from Mt Bona. Nearly all of the text is in Japanese, but there is 7-page summary of the expedition written/printed in english near the end of the book. There is also a very thorough list of all mountaineering attempts and ascents in Alaska starting with the 1741 sighting of Mt St Elias by Vitus Bering through July 1969 Japanese ascents of Mt Lucania and Mt Steele. The list is in table format in english (see photo below for partial example) and spans 52 pages of the book.
