This is the 1946 printing of MOUNTAINEERING IN THE SIERRA NEVADA by Clarence King. This book was published in New York by Norton in 1946. The book measures 220mm tall x 147mm, and has 320 pages, 8 b/w plates ( photos by Ansel Adams ), bibliography, and was edited by Francis Farquhar. This edition has an excellent biographical preface by Farquhar. This book is the classic of US mountaineering literature. Sir Martin Conway wrote of it, “one of the finest books on mountain-travel ever written” (page 90 in The Bolivian Andes). King describes his scents of Mt Tyndall, Whitney, Langley, Clark, Shasta along with some Sierra Nevada rambles & survey history.

CONDITION: Original blue cloth, gilt lettering cover & spine. The book is in fine condition with no marks, no writing or underlining, clean, solid binding. The original dust jacket has a long tear along spine with traces of old tape residue, 15mm loss at top and bottom of spine, some small loss along fron flap crease. Price: $25.
