This is the second printing of WHERE THE CLOUDS CAN GO -- THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF CONRAD KAIN. It was published in New York by The American Alpine Club in 1954. This is the second printing of the first edition which originally appeared in 1935 in a very small run. Only 500 copies of the book were printed. Even this second printing was quite small in number. The book measures 236mm tall x 155mm and has 456 pages, 29 b/w photos on 19 plates, index, with additional chapters by J.M. Thorington. Published posthumously (Kain died in 1934). A classic of mountaineering in Canada (250 pages on climbing in Canada). Kain, born and raised in Lower Austria, was a guide & great climber. He made around 100 first ascents & new routes in the Alps (mostly Dolomites & Gesäuse), NZ, & Canada including Mt Robson, Bugaboo Spire, & Louis.

CONDITION: original green cloth with gilt lettering spine and small gilt decoration front cover. Original dust jacket is in fairly nice condition (1cm clean tear lower rear, minute 1mm chipping very tips of some corners, rubbing at folds, light soiling and foxing rear panel). Book is in near fine condition, with clean covers, tight binding, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. Price: $125.
