HISTORY WITH MANY QUOTES AND PHOTOS

SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR

This is the first printing of the first USA edition of CLIMBING IN NORTH AMERICA by Chris Jones. This book was published in Berkeley by the University of California Press for The American Alpine Club in 1976. The book measures 222mm tall x 215mm and has 391 pages, many b/w photos, index. This presents detailed summaries of various classic N American climbs. Overall it is an interesting history of mountaineering in N America: earliest years, Alaska, Canada, Tetons, Colorado, Sierra Nevada, etc. This remains one of the most comprehensive books on the history of climbing in N America. The sections on the 1960s and 1970s contain many colorful anecdotes about climbers and events that have not been put into print anywhere else, though whether they are absolutely true is hard to assess.
