THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE MOUNT HOOD TRAGEDY
THREE PERISHED AFTER CLIMBING THE NORTH FACE
THE INCIDENT ATTRACTED NATIONAL ATTENTION
This is a later printing of the first edition of HOLDING FAST -- THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE MOUNT HOOD TRAGEDY by Karen James. This book was published in 2008 by Thomas Nelson in Nashville. It is a later printing of the first edition with exactly the same format other than a different number line on the copyright page. The book measures 235mm tall x 155mm and has 225 pages, 29 color & 57 b/w photos. Written by the wife of one of the victims, Kelly James, this is the account of the long rescue search for a team of three missing climbers who were reported lost after completing a winter ascent in of the N Face of Mt Hood in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon in December of 2006. James phoned his wife, the author of this book, from a snow cave just below the summit to report that he was trapped by a fierce winter storm. That call initiated a rescue effort that lasted for days and that was covered by the national media. This book gives a day by day account of the resuce efforts, a detailed analysis of what likely happened to the climbing team, and a moving description of the heartbreak and emotional crisis experienced by the author. Kelly James' body was recovered from the snow cave near the summit. The bodies of his two partners were lost, probably down the N Face in a fall while trying to downclimb.
